From start to finish, leading for 30 laps, Marc Marquez secures victory at the Sachsenring: for the Catalan, it is the 11th consecutive win on “his” left-turning Saxon track. In total, this marks his 83rd victory, but this one, after 587 days of waiting (with the last on November 17, 2019, in Valencia), has a very special flavor. This is because it comes after a year of hardship, three operations on his right shoulder following the crash at Jerez, and especially the fear of never being able to race again.
The four-time world champion resisted the challenge from the Portuguese rider Oliveira with KTM, while the German podium is completed by the 3rd place of Fabio Quartararo, who increases his lead in the standings (+22).
Quartararo expressed his satisfaction with this good result: “This 3rd place is worth gold: I had problems all weekend, and this morning I was losing 2 tenths per lap. But I fought from start to finish, and now I can’t wait to return to Assen: one of the tracks I prefer.”
