For this 5th edition of the WINTER IN MUSIC Festival, exceptional concerts are organized by Olivier Vernet, the Artistic Director of the festival and organist at Monaco’s grand organs:
“This year again, we will welcome exceptional artists who have kindly agreed to make a stop at our beautiful church of Saint-Jacques le Majeur. The four concerts are designed as a single grand musical journey. There is no doubt that this journey will offer you wonderful surprises, musical discoveries, and artistic encounters,” he says in his presentation.
Five internationally renowned artists, whose talent and reputation cross borders, will perform at the Saint-Jacques le Majeur church, a place of reflection and sharing in the heart of the old village.
This Sunday, January 11, Richard Galliano will play his most well-known pieces including “La Valse à Margaux,” “Tango pour Claude,” and “Libertango.”
Son of Lucien Galliano, an accordion teacher of Italian origin, Richard began playing the instrument at the age of 4 at the Nice conservatory.
Galliano is now recognized as an exceptional soloist. Inspired by his friend Astor Piazzolla, inventor of the “Tango Nuevo,” the accordionist has succeeded, with his “new musette,” in revitalizing a truly French tradition.
The principle of the recital is that Richard Galliano transitions from one piece to another through improvisations and based on his mood at the moment.
The style of his concert will range from classical to jazz, from waltz to tango, from Latin music to pop.
