A few years ago, Mougins volleyball did not exist. Well, not at this level. Frédéric Pastorello, president of Mougins volleyball for 13 years, reflects on the rapid progress of his club.
Can you explain the performance of the first team?
The girls have been accumulating titles for 3 years. They were champions of N3 in 2010, N2 in 2011, and N1 in 2012. They are now in pro B.
What are your ambitions for this 2012-2013 year?
We aim for the top 4! If we do better, all the better. The objective is to reach pro A by 2013-2014. I am counting on Marie Tari, one of the best players of the century, to accomplish this. She has experienced all the victories; it would be a shame to stop there.
Where are you in your recruitment?
We are complete. We kept 4 players from last season and recruited 6 others. The veterans have moved to the reserve team where the girls have just moved up to the regional level.
Where do your recruits come from?
We work a lot with young players. There are 250 in the club out of 414 members. 5 coaches take care of them, and as soon as we feel they are ready, they move to the first team. This was the case for Anais Martin for example. She moved from regional 1 and is now in pro B. She has progressed alongside the team’s advancement.
Do you think the media coverage is commensurate with your success?
Next to Cannes and Le Cannet, it’s difficult to compete. Maybe that will come. Laura Ong from RC Cannes has increased professionalism in the region.
Emilie Poma just participated in the beach volleyball tournament, do you think it will improve her indoor performance?
It was I who asked Emilie to participate in this tournament. However, she is not a beach player. It is a joy to see her perform (the player in company with Barbara Pochon finished 3rd in the competition). It won’t bring anything to the team, it’s just for pleasure.
