The President of the ANMSM, Charles-Ange Ginésy, and Jean-Michel Baylet, Minister of Territorial Planning, Rurality, and Local Authorities, have agreed to an arrangement to allow mountain resorts to retain their municipal tourist offices if they wish.

Thus, the Minister proposes to examine an exception to the transfer of the competence of promotion and tourist offices to intercommunal bodies for resorts that are classified or in the process of being classified.

The law on the New Territorial Organization of the Republic (NOTRe) of August 7, 2015, indeed provided that from January 1, 2017, the responsibility for “tourism promotion, including the creation of tourist offices,” would be obligatorily transferred to intercommunal bodies (Article 64).

“Maintaining the management of promotion and tourist offices at the municipal level for classified or in-process-of-classification resorts is absolutely essential for France to continue being the world’s leading destination in terms of ski area attendance,” states Charles-Ange Ginésy, President of the ANMSM.
