1. The Menu by Mark Mylod
A horror film that promises to be quite original. Indeed, the action does not take place in a hostile and unsanitary environment, but rather in the heart of a highly reputed gourmet restaurant. Fear is built through tensions between the different characters, as well as the simultaneously captivating and unsettling framing and cinematography. A promising first taste. The cast features the talented Anya Taylor-Joy and the irreplaceable Ralph Fiennes.
2. Theirs by Roschdy Zem
A drama that promises to be particularly poignant. It is the story of a TV presenter, Ryad, who suffers a traumatic brain injury following an accident. The only person to take care of him is his brother Moussa, who has always admired Ryad. A film about the fraternal bond that unites these two characters with overwhelming destinies.
3. No Bears by Jafar Panahi
A film that holds a lot of promise. We follow a director in an Iranian village near the border. He witnesses a love story while filming another. Tradition and politics become intertwined in this gripping narrative film.
4. Inu-Oh by Masaaki Yuasa
The new film by the famous Masaaki Yuasa, a true giant of Japanese animation. As always, the director offers us a film with a unique visual style, instantly recognizable. Here, the plot plunges us into the heart of feudal Japan and its myths, filled with troubling spirits and strange yokai. A new must-see to catch without delay.
5. Saint Omer by Alice Diop
A powerful film inspired by a true story. We follow Rama, a young novelist, attending the trial of Laurence Coly, accused of killing her child. Hearing the testimonies causes Rama’s certainties to waver, questioning her judgment. A film set in the judicial milieu, optimally conveying a trial with significant stakes.
