“My Buddy” is a wonderful surprise!
Since “The Heart of Men,” we know that Marc Esposito knows how to film buddy stories. But here, it’s not about a group of friends, romantic infidelities, or flirting, but rather a more complex story.
The story is about Bruno, a former car thief hired by Victor, the manager of a car magazine. The story is all the more credible because the director himself experienced it when he was the director of the magazine Première.
The film is carried by a duo that works wonderfully, “Magimel-Baer.” Special mention goes to Edouard Baer, who is simply brilliant in this film with his class, his disillusioned demeanor, and his incisive humor. Despite the subject, the film never falls into pity and compassion but prefers to engage with the viewer.
A small drawback, however, is the piano music that accompanies the moments of buddy friendship.
An enjoyable comedy, a solid storyline, very funny lines, and an amazing duo.
