Moz’art: an organization that offers music education to children and adults with disabilities.

In 2010, the association Moz’ahrt made its appearance in Nice. Jacqueline Dicharry, its founder and director, did her utmost to welcome people in difficulty in the best possible way.

A pianist, percussionist, and singing teacher, Jacqueline Dicharry has made it her mission to help people with disabilities and to teach them the musical values that fascinate her. Being blind and autistic herself, this is a cause that is particularly close to her heart. By turning her passion into her profession, she enables many people to flourish through music.

A Fierce Battle

Surrounded by doctors, therapists, and an orchestra from Monte-Carlo, the director of Moz’ahrt has dedicated all her time and energy to the development of this association. “In 2013, there were so many requests from new students that we needed larger premises. We battled with the town hall and only got premises for rent in 2021 thanks to Mr. Antony Borré. But the Covid crisis ruined everything. We could only open the establishment in 2022 because of the ARS (Regional Health Agency). We were very restricted: no group lessons were allowed. In September 2022, group lessons resumed. We lost a lot, but we are slowly recovering,” explains the founder.

Jacqueline Dicharry’s biggest wish for Moz’ahrt is for it to grow: “I would like us to expand elsewhere. We need more people; I want my association to grow and endure,” she concludes.

A Comprehensive and Adapted Education

It was music that saved me,” confides the musician. When she created Moz’ahrt, her desire was to show those with and without disabilities that music saves and greatly comforts. To prove this, Moz’ahrt offers perfectly adapted teaching for each handicap and illness. The teachings range from piano to guitar, including violin, percussion, singing, clarinet, and even drums.

Group lessons are taught in a way that varies for each condition: “We learn musical braille for the blind; for those with visual impairments, we adapt the sheet music to their vision, we adjust,” specifies Jacqueline Dicharry. Each teacher has received psychological training to adapt to each member, as each condition is different.

Jacqueline Dicharry concludes: For us, it’s like a family; I didn’t want something school-like. I want them to learn for enjoyment. We aim to exude friendship, happiness, and love.
