After the reactions of Philippe Vardon (RN) and Benoรฎt Kandel (CNIP and Independent), following Christian Estrosi’s announcement regarding the destruction of TNN and Acropolis and their relocation elsewhere, Patrick Allemand (Nice au coeur) also voiced his opinion.
We must put an end to this strategy of spectacular announcements whose objective is to prompt debate and therefore evade the real issues.
Admittedly, Acropolis is not an aesthetic success, but the convention center remains very operational and proved it in 2019 by having its best conference season. At the same time, 12 million euros worth of compliance work has just been completed. Moreover, they are the only large venues in the city center.
No one has the capacity or expertise to verify Christian Estrosi’s declarations about the TNN, but I find that the MAMAC and the TNN formed a coherent ensemble. Splitting them up would be a mistake.
In any case, it would be a severe blow to the surrounding neighborhoods and for all the cafรฉ and restaurant owners and the businesses in the city center, which represent thousands of jobs.
Lastly, it signals a new financial abyss. We thought we were done with the grandeur madness with the underground line 2 of the tram that indebted the city and the metropolitan area to the tune of 2 billion euros, but the father of debt is back!
Financially, this project represents an insane amount of at least 500 million euros and still years of construction work in the city center for Niรงois who can’t take it anymore.
And finally, from an ecological standpoint, it’s nonsensical due to the ecological footprint of the demolition work.
The trees that will be planted there will be worth their weight in gold.
