Christian Estrosi invited the young people of Nice to participate in a youth convention and share their ideas for the city. It was an opportunity to introduce a new running mate.
“Immediacy kills an entire society.”
Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, prefers to set a guiding line and a long-term vision. To achieve these goals, he enlisted Graig Monetti, the current chief of staff and advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, and former president of FACE06, to join his future team.
According to the JDD, Nice is the most attractive territory in France. “We have done a lot, but we still have a lot to do,” said the mayor of Nice, hinting at those young people who, after their studies, are looking for professional opportunities matching their ambitions.
He chose four main areas from the proposals of the young people:
Involvement of young people in the city with free public transport and parking for 18 to 25-year-olds from Friday evening to Sunday. Creation, based on the Scandinavian model, of designated “evening captains” (breathalyzer checks) who abstain from drinking alcohol and drive shared cars to prevent road incidents.
Promoting training and employment through the meeting of young people and economic stakeholders, helping to find internships and Erasmus opportunities. We will create a platform to facilitate meetings between young people and stakeholders to help them find internships or Erasmus opportunities abroad by providing access to our twinning network.
Solving housing problems by addressing the Airbnb debate. Nice should be the first city in France to offer rental options for students (with a capped rate to be accessible for students) during the school year and become Airbnbs during the holidays.
Create a solidarity restaurant for students based on the model of solidarity grocery stores.
We will also provide young entrepreneurs with pre-empted commercial spaces.
