As the saying goes, “When there are more of us, we are stronger.” This is what the Greens must have thought before allying with the Socialist Party ahead of the municipal elections. In Nice, they are joining Patrick Allemand’s list. The same dynamic of gathering is happening in Antibes, Cannes, Le Cannet, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Grasse, and Menton. In all the cited municipalities, socialists will be placed at the top of the list. The alliance could also extend to the upcoming cantonal elections.
Patrick Allemand describes the situation: “The policy conducted at the Regional Council, around Michel Vauzelle, is a sign of the quality of the alliance between our two parties.” As the only left stronghold in the department with a few mayors, the experience at the Regional Council has captivated the Greens. “It is the decisive factor that allows for this alliance. We’ve felt that the Greens can truly participate in matters at the regional level,” assures Remi Gaechter.
“Change of Era” and “Change of Air”
Regarding his campaign program, Patrick Allemand did not want to reveal anything today. He simply announced that his priority is housing policy in Nice, with the creation of new social housing. He wishes for these new constructions to all be built to HQE (High Environmental Quality) standards. His two future running mates, Remi Gaechter and Mari-Luz Hernandez-Nicaise were more talkative. Already municipal councilors alongside Patrick Mottard on the Nice Plurielle list, they hope to successfully pursue projects already initiated under the current term. Mari-Luz Hernandez-Nicaise hopes for “a change of era and air in Nice, both literally and figuratively.”
Thanks to the Greens who have joined him, Patrick Allemand can present “the broadest gathering on a socialist list in Nice.” Because in addition to the Greens, the Communists and the MRC have already signed departmental agreements to ally with the Socialists for these 2008 municipal elections.
