Municipal Elections 2014: The Radical Left Party Calls for Unity

Latest News

On the occasion of the annual General Assembly, PRG leaders Jean-Christophe Picard, departmental president, and Patrick Mottard, general councilor, clearly stated that their goal is to form left-wing coalition lists in as many municipalities as possible.

Regarding the specific case of the city of Nice, the left radicals have adopted the following motion:

“In a spirit of responsibility, the left radicals wish to prioritize the creation of a wide coalition list, as it is the only credible alternative to the UMP and FN.

The question of the lead candidate—meaning the future mayor in case of victory—must not be overlooked. It is obviously not conceivable for this to be chosen by the members of only one component of the coalition list.

This is why, since last September, the PRG has been proposing the organization of an open primary, following the model of the one organized during the presidential election.

It is noticeable that PS 06 has not wished to discuss this issue with its potential partners. In the end, Nice will be the only major city for which this solution will not be examined by the national PS bodies!

We take note of this.

Hence, we propose a meeting with all left-wing political formations in favor of such a coalition to collectively decide on the method for selecting the lead candidate, the program, an ethical charter, representativeness, and the openness of the list.”

Will they be heard by other parties and political formations with the same orientation?

Faced with the driving force of Estrosi and the strong ‘frontist’ electorate, success or, at the very least, presence in the second round can only be achieved through a coalition list with an innovative program that can foster electoral momentum.

Otherwise, the left in Nice can only aim for an honorable defeat and be back in the opposition for the next term.
