Municipal Elections 2020: Benoît Kandel requests a refund for the overpaid waste disposal tax

Latest News

In 2017, a whistleblower from Laurent, Laurent Guibert, who is not a member of any political party and not running for any election, took an interest in the numbers from the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis related to the household waste collection tax (TEOM).

He found that the tax was significantly overestimated compared to what the law allows (up to 67% more). The metropolis, whose president is none other than Christian Estrosi, reportedly collected an excess of 60 million euros per year on this tax over recent years.

Guibert, therefore, alerted all opposition metropolitan councilors.

Benoît Kandel, Guillaume Aral, and also Olivier Bettati were among the few elected officials to take the matter to the Regional Audit Chamber in September 2018, which has yet to respond.

However, Christian Estrosi continues to claim that all this is just a problem between the taxpayers and the tax authorities! Yet it is still he who had the tax voted by his majority and who maintains it at a very excessive level, knowingly! Ultimately, we see that, not content with having exploded the property tax, he also abusively used the household waste collection tax to finance his major projects.

Benoît Kandel denounces Christian Estrosi’s illegal tax and calls on all residents of Nice in this situation to seek reimbursement.
