Candidate for the third time for city office, the historical main opponent of the outgoing mayor, Patrick Allemand, accompanied by his running mates Xavier Garcia and Christine Dorejo (PS), and Nicolas Delaire (UDE), has kicked off his election campaign, which includes four thematic axes.
“It’s time to present his vision for the city, to outline the support strategy, to set the objectives, priorities, actions, and means to achieve them,” said Patrick Allemand. Taking into account the analysis of the current situation, which he defined as “catastrophic,” he drew a clear conclusion: “There are territorial decisions to be made. If we don’t make them, the city will continue its anarchic development.”
In line with these principles, the candidate from Nice au coeur, following the all-ecology trend, opened the book of proposals on the theme “Sustainable Nice” around two flagship measures: a comprehensive energy renovation plan for schools and a plan aiming for “Zero Waste.”
The first “will be the real project of this beginning of the century,” emphasized Patrick Allemand. The figures confirm it: 154 schools, from 300 to 400 thousand square meters of surface, with an estimated budget of 300 million euros.
Nineteen other diverse and detailed proposals complement this file, mainly concerning energy modernization in all possible forms (only 8% of consumption is from solar energy), sanctuarization of agricultural land, and food projects (only 2% food autonomy), and even reducing the number of rats!!!
Regarding the “zero waste” project, 31 proposals—some innovative, others simple corrections of “bad practices”—show the extent and depth of this file. They revolve around the implementation of collective and familiar composting and, above all, a revolution in terms of mindset to achieve a society of “eco-citizens” sensitive to the common good.
Conclusion of this “green bible”? The topic is obviously fundamental and must be a central part of the reflection by anyone proposing to play an important role in the city’s governance.
Moreover, even if the 21+31 proposals from Nice au coeur somewhat resemble a “supermarket list,” they also show that the issue has been thoroughly debated.
It will be up to the voters to appreciate it at its true value.
