Is the carnival atmosphere approaching? Adrenaline that, if we listen to experts, multiplies its effects depending on the approach of the election. In any case, it was a tireless and unstoppable Christian Estrosi who led the fourth thematic conference of his electoral campaign.
After health, the economy, and culture, it was the turn of a major topic with proximity, security, cleanliness, and parking. In other words, the issues that resonate deeply with citizens, especially seniors who represented the vast majority of those present.
This major and mobilizing theme was handled with verve and aggressiveness by the outgoing mayor, mixing the assessment of his first term with the projects for the one to come.
Being careful to say what the public wanted to hear and alternating, as a seasoned actor, criticism of the government and patriotic tones, Christian Estrosi illustrated his proposals divided into two axes: Daily proximity at the service of all and everyone, and the security of the people of Nice in the face of the laxity of the socialist government (An argument mentioned more than once with tones more propagandistic than close to a political critique. A premature effect of the โtifosoโ before the eveningโs derby?).
Here are the 15 proposals:
1 โ the Blue Service, 8 territorial teams to carry out daily road maintenance interventions very quickly (Olivier Bettati will request a right to respond to denounce the plagiarism?)
2 โ The expansion of the Digital Town Hall thanks to new technologies
3 โ the appointment of a citizen mediator to assist with relations with the administration based on the model that has long been used in Scandinavian countries and even in Italy
4 โ a major road renovation plan that complements the most significant achievements already completed
5 โ the requalification of 7 squares (Saint-Franรงois, Max Barel, Adolphe Blanqui, Gรฉnรฉral Goiran, Alexandre Mรฉdecin, Yves Klein, Franklin)
6 โ parking on delivery spots for quick stops for everyone from 1 pm to 8 pm, which will recover an additional 900 spaces
7 โ installation of textile containers to collect clothes for less fortunate people
8 โ doubling the number of neighborhood mediators for better and quicker resolution of incivilities
9 โ installation of 500 additional cameras with an increase in the areas and personnel of the urban supervision center
10 โ reinforcement of the Green Brigade for the protection of public tranquility and the fight against dog droppings (Ed: any addresses?)
11 โ information campaign on prevention techniques with free technical assistance from a unit of the municipal police
12 โ accompaniment of victims in administrative and judicial procedures
13 โ Creation of a Municipal Reserve for sports events and shows that do not require professional monitoring staff
14 โ territorialize the presence of the Municipal Police on the ground (community policing) and strengthen the Mobile Night Brigade (proposal already presented by Patrick Allemand but cleverly and usefully taken up).
And finally, in 15th and last position, the defense of the interests of the people of Nice and their tranquility by protecting them by all means and opposing decisions related to: the abolition of minimum sentences, the decrease in the eviction of illegal immigrants, the integration of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen area.
Regarding this point, it is questioned what these arguments have to do in a municipal election campaign. Christian Estrosi is still under the effect of the echo of his unprecedented alliance with Marine Le Pen on his proposal for a referendum on Swiss-style immigration?
If in politics everything is connected, one should avoid mixing genres and thus creating confusion. At the very least, the competencies and responsibilities of a mayor representing the territory should be separated from those of a deputy representing the nation.
Should we remind Christian Estrosi that France is the country of Montesquieu? Let him therefore be a deputy in Paris and a mayor in Nice with the separation of roles that is required. Political opposition can, and must, be tough, but it must always be respectful of the institutions and constituted bodies that represent it.
Looking forward to 2017 and the abolition of multiple mandates. And may everyone stay within the limits of the electoral mandate that the citizens-voters have conferred through their vote.
