Municipal Elections in Nice: Jacques Peyrat and his Rally Enter the Fray

Latest News

Silent after breaking his alliance with Jean Icart, Jacques Peyrat has found his voice again, and what a voice it is. Even if success won’t be in the cards, it will certainly not be due to a lack of investment and energy!

peyrat-12.jpg The former mayor does not hide the difficulties in finalizing his list. Without alliances, it certainly won’t be easy to make it to the second round against candidates from “national” parties: “Too many personal lists are heading in the wrong direction and will cause a dispersion of votes when the opposite should have been done,” he said clearly.

A door remains open for a possible alliance with Nissa Rebela, while Jacques Peyrat confirmed having received and declined the offer to be the number 2 on Marie Christine Arnautu’s list.

No anti-Estrosi wave either. Again, a clarification from him: “I am not (or no longer?) in a mood for revenge but in a spirit of proposition. Yes, I still haven’t digested his curt judgment of my management: A field of ruins. But we know the man and his habit of lying. Moreover, he continues to claim that he never increased taxes, when he did so right after being elected!”

In the event of his election, Jacques Peyrat already has his first act planned: “I will order an audit to know exactly where we stand in terms of the accumulated debt of the city and the metropolis,” while the second will be to “review the conditions for awarding social housing, where it seems there is a certain drift.”

Beyond the commitments that are part of the fixed menu for every candidate (security, cleanliness, and proximity… Who would dare think and say otherwise?), some proposals have the hallmark of originality: Action to obtain, if not within the city then at least within the metropolitan area, a Court of Appeal and the construction (Why not in the Plaine du Var?) of a new detention center in place of the current poorly located and outdated one.

Finally, Jacques Peyrat, supported by the regional president of the Party of France, Mr. Jean-Claude Frappa, emphasized his full support for the ban on cumulative mandates: “Those who want to engage in political maneuvering must have a national role. The city should be managed territorially, and its mayor should dialogue with whoever represents the national institutions, whether from the right or the left.”
