If we used sports language, we could say that Olivier Bettati’s “transfer market” continues to make waves for the enjoyment of the local political microcosm. Every day, a new rallying to the Bettati list gives the impression of an impetuous movement.
Expected for some time, the arrival of Benoît Kandel (who was for 5 years the first deputy of Christian Estrosi before a painful separation) to Olivier Bettati’s team and list was made official by the interested party yesterday morning during a press conference.
As a good former military man, and thus faithful to the code of honor, Benoît Kandel did not want to overly debate his eviction, the withdrawal of his delegations by the municipal majority, except perhaps to point out that the Semiacs episode was the pretext for making a decision that was in the air (“The mayor, since his full-time return to the Town Hall after not being reappointed as a minister, has changed his attitude towards me. Probably, he wanted to be the only one to exist, and he doesn’t like heads that stand out, and if they do, they can be cut as might have been the case with me.”)
In short, enough with growling about the past and onward to the future. Which will be called Olivier Bettati and his ability as well as his willingness to work in a team to envision a collective effort for city management.
Rational and capable of hiding his emotions, Benoît Kandel will embrace this project out of conviction and “not to settle scores”: he will certainly be at the heart of the “trans-partisan” candidate Olivier Bettati’s setup.
The pre-electoral puzzle is starting to take all its shapes and we are just waiting for Marc Concas’s declaration to confirm if he will join Olivier Bettati’s list or if he wants to play his cards with the PRG 06 of Jean-Christophe Picard.
The cross-positioning of the former UMP member is starting to attract the interest of all who denounce a conservatism in politics and its traditional parties. The Bettati list (whose name and slogan we are curiously waiting for) can appeal to an electorate that positions itself between voting without conviction and abstention.
In any case, it will have the merit of animating a campaign that promised to be of little interest, nor brilliance, between a big favorite and two contenders who could aspire, at most, to a presence in the second round and an honorable defeat at best.
The scenario has been slightly different for a few days…
