The election is fast approaching, and candidates are adjusting the final details to attract undecided voters. Patrick Allemand, from the list of the Left and Ecologists’ coalition, held his last campaign meeting yesterday. It was an opportunity to reiterate his program and criticize the record of the outgoing mayor.
It was at the Palais de la Mรฉditerranรฉe that Patrick Allemand and his running mates gathered yesterday for the candidate’s final municipal meeting. A last major speech exactly one week before the first round and in front of nearly 1,000 people, mostly activists.
On this occasion, part of his team spoke on stage. Paule Rey-Joselet, president of Patrick Allemand’s support committee, portrayed the candidate as d’Artagnan, tasked with fighting the powerful for his lady, the city of Nice. She described the candidate as “an exceptional man, a hard worker but sometimes stubborn”.
For his part, the number 3 on the list, Fabrice Decoupigny, highlighted his status as a teacher to evaluate the outgoing mayor.
He characterized Christian Estrosi as a student “not very good at anything except sports,” examining one by one the weaknesses of the UMP candidate. In summary, one of the most taxed cities in France, record debt, a very low number of social housing (12%), only 300 meters of tram in 6 years, a highly polluted city, and a show-off policy based on beautifying the city center.
Patrick Allemand then spoke and continued the “Estrosi-Bashing”, stating that the outgoing Mayor suffered from an ego hypertrophy, pointing out their respective websites, on the left nice2014, on the right Estrosi2014.
The candidate then joked about the polls and a possible victory for Estrosi in the first round, imagining that such a victory would make Estrosi want to run for the 2017 presidential elections. An hypothesis to which Patrick Allemand responded with “if you don’t vote for me, do it for France”.
He also asserted that the polls had not diminished his good humor and motivation. He argued that the record of the outgoing mayor was none other than the city’s decline. He then highlighted the main points of his program, revisiting the shortcomings of his main opponent.
Patrick Allemand concluded the meeting with his number one priority, the famous line 2 of the tramway, opposing the underground line project.
Forward, for the home stretch…
