The fourth part of Patrick Allemand’s program, “Nice, Creative and Stimulating,” covers the areas of culture, economy, tourism, nightlife, and the smart city.
The objective is declared: Develop the creative economy in Nice and bring the city to life through this creativity. According to Patrick Allemand, the observation is evident: Economic development is lacking. In six years of Christian Estrosi’s administration, unemployment has significantly increased from 6.8% to 10.6%.
And, according to the socialist candidate, the OIN (Opรฉration d’Intรฉrรชt National) in the Var Plain does not provide a sufficient response: “In fact, there is an obvious lack of collaboration between the OIN and Sophia Antipolis, where the business rate is high.”
Patrick Allemand wants increased complementarity between the two sites and even proposes to rename the Eco-Valley to “Nikaรฏapolis.” Will this common root be enough to transform the latent, yet detrimental, competition into an alliance?
For now, we can only linger on this sole question.
If the Eco-Valley, or Nikaรฏapolis, will undoubtedly be the axis of development for the western area, the rebalancing towards the east will be through the Paillon of the Arts and Culture, which we have already presented.
Here too, an observation: “In six years, no significant investment has been made. The Contemporary Art Foundation on the Sulzer parking lot never materialized, nor did the City of Sciences at the Observatory. No Museum of Popular Traditions or Museum of History at Phoenix Park. In short, no substantial investment has been achieved.”
For Patrick Allemand: “Christian Estrosi’s vision does not meet the challenges of a major 21st-century cultural city.” Thus, he wishes to launch the รtats Gรฉnรฉraux of Culture, which will enable the definition and coordination of a common schedule for this challenge, which is also an economic issue.
In any case, two axes are already present in the socialist elected official’s desire for action: Broadening the audience and diversifying cultural offerings, and making culture for all a means to fight social inequalities.
Some other proposals? Taking direct control of Nikaia and the Acropolis to build a coherent and complementary attractiveness policy.
A considerable contribution should come from a new comprehensive tourism strategy with the diversification of offerings to attract business and cultural tourism in addition to leisure tourism.
A real revolution seems to be in the candidate’s words. However, at this stage, the consensus of the electorate is still lacking…
