Municipal Elections Nice 2014: The MoDem Chooses Olivier Bettati

Latest News

The MoDem of Alpes-Maritimes has expressed its stance on the role it will play in the municipal elections in Nice and has decided to participate by supporting Olivier Bettati’s bold approach.

municipales_2014-14.jpg This choice partly goes against the strategic option decided at the national level following the UDI-MODEM alliance which places itself in opposition. The subtlety of the Niçois Modem lies in the fact that while it certainly opposes the socialist candidate from the presidential majority, Patrick Allemend, it also opposes the outgoing UMP mayor and candidate Christian Estrosi.

In contrast, the UDI of Rudy Salles remains well entrenched within the fold of today’s winners and will attempt to capitalize on this loyalty with good positions for its list candidates.

What has attracted the centrists, says the departmental delegate Jean-François Fouqué, who illustrated this position surrounded by some leaders of this political movement, “is the trans-partisan nature of Bettati’s list, a man who has stood up against the system. Municipal matters are 95% issues that should not be politicized but are technical matters in which common sense should prevail,” concludes the same Fouqué.

The criticism directed at the outgoing mayor is blunt: Lack of listening, personal and often erroneous decisions, unnecessary spending, blatant careerism…

For this election, the Modem is targeting the silent majority, the “party” with the most abstentionists. The goal? To rekindle interest in those who have lost it and those who do not identify with the sterile left-right opposition.

The centrist party aspires to become “central” within the framework of Niçois politics.
