Ten Nice associations wish to know the intentions and convictions of the candidates in the Nice municipal election regarding Niçoise culture in its broadest sense.

These associations are all actively involved in the daily life of the Niçoise language and culture. Their members are predominantly Niçoise citizens and thus will participate as voters in the municipal elections on March 23 and 30.

As association leaders and in response to their requests and expectations, the boards of administration wish to ask a few questions about this subject to better understand the intentions and projects of each candidate on this crucial issue.

Nice Premium is pleased to support this initiative and will publish the candidates’ responses upon receipt.

EDUCATION

1- What do you think of bilingual classes? Do you plan to develop this branch during your term? If yes, in what way?

2- Secondary education (middle and high schools) sometimes requires fighting with the middle management of the National Education system. Can we count on your support so that young Niçoise can follow this education from sixth grade to the baccalaureate?

ECONOMY

3- Each year, cultural tourism attracts hundreds of thousands of people to Nice and its region. What do you plan to undertake in order to develop what can represent a huge economic asset for the city and thus create jobs for young people trained in Niçoise language and culture, cultural heritage specialists?

VISIBILITY AND PUBLIC LIFE:

4- There is no Niçoise library in Nice. A unique place, like the CIRDOC in Béziers, which would be easily accessible to the public and would allow the consultation of a Nissardophone documentation collection: books but also CDs, manuscripts, newspapers…
Do you think that such a place could exist in Nice?

5- Thanks to the Victorine studios, Nice has always been a major hub of cinematic production. Today, a dynamic allows the entire city to be “an open-air set.” Would it not be conceivable to create a Cinema Museum on the Victorine site to highlight this cinematic heritage the city enjoys and also to revitalize the structure of the old studios?

6- Beyond the streets of Old Nice, will you develop bilingual signage and displays? If yes, what are your projects?

7- Will you develop the use of “Nissart” in public life? While there currently is the possibility of celebrating marriages in French and “Nissart”, do you think the regional language can make its way into other events and ceremonies?

LIVING CULTURE

8- How do you plan to support creation around Niçoise culture, whether musical, literary, artistic, and more generally in the world of performance?

9- Is it conceivable that the City of Nice could professionally handle the video recording of all performances, whether theatrical, musical or others, produced in Nissart, to create an audiovisual archive of today’s artistic production in Nissart?

10- Do you commit to reserving “en lenga nouòstra” programs in the Niçoise television broadcast schedule on TNT at acceptable viewing hours?

Ladies and gentlemen candidates, to your keyboards…
