The concept of ecology for ViVA! is to address three interconnected emergencies: the climate emergency, the social emergency, and the democratic emergency.
Robert Injey, number 2 on this list, doesn’t mince words, launching a few barbs: “At a time when those who, for twelve years, have concretized the city and approved the most polluting projects dare to dress in ecology, at a time when those who claim to hold the monopoly on ecology ally with unscrupulous characters and want us to believe that environmental defense is compatible with the neoliberal system, voices are rising to point out where the true defense of political ecology lies.”
The main proposals of the ViVA! list:
– Implement free public transportation for all.
– Make reducing air pollution a priority.
– Extend the tramway to Ariane and Trinité.
– Improve the network, frequency, and operating hours of all public transport.
– Build 340 km of cycling paths.
– Make Nice a walkable city.
– Redefine the “last mile” logistics: completely reorganize deliveries to reduce pollution and the traffic of trucks and utility vehicles.
– Suspend construction in the Var plain.
– Create an agricultural board and acquire 93 hectares to supply canteens with local organic produce.
– Combat food waste and establish a genuine composting channel.
– Move towards energy autonomy and moderation for public lighting and buildings.
– Suspend the airport expansion and propose a referendum for the population to decide.
– Stop the economic development policy based on over-tourism.
– Prioritize the thermal rehabilitation of social housing.
– Favor renewable resources.
– Improve waste prevention, recycling, and sorting.
– Reduce waste incineration as much as possible and do everything to exit it as soon as possible.
– Transform the neighborhoods of Nice into eco-neighborhoods with local services.
– Comply with standards at all wastewater treatment plants.
– Create two marine protected areas between Cap de Nice and on the Promenade des Anglais.
– Develop dog parks and nearby off-leash areas.
– Protect all city trees and improve soil permeability.
– Favor planting local, water-efficient species, deciduous trees to limit heat islands, and fruit trees.
– Develop urban biodiversity and establish a plan to combat animal suffering.
