The announcement of the date for the second round of the municipal elections will result in the elimination of the civic-socialist list from the Municipal and Metropolitan Council.
Patrick Allemand, head of the list, responds to this situation with poise.
โThe wrong decision was to maintain the first round on March 15 under right-wing pressure, at a time when the pandemic was spreading throughout the country, which led to a massive abstention that certainly skewed the election results.
As a list eliminated in the first round, it is evident that our preference was for the election to be postponed to January and for both rounds to be held again. This would have offered the left a second chance to reach an agreement, which the choice of June 28 does not allow.
However, if we rise above partisan and personal interests, the choice of June 28 is understandable because it is not democratically healthy for municipal councils and intercommunal bodies to remain for months without governance fully legitimized by an election.โ
