In memory, the left is not the ideal place to express beautiful harmony. A dialectical place by definition (two people, three different political thoughts), for a long time, we managed to find a synthesis when moving from ideas to positions to distribute.
In these lean times, where positions are not abundant and have to be sought after, the “distribution of bread and fish” no longer satisfies the appetites (sometimes voracious) of false friends.
So, accounts are settled…
Almost everywhere in the Alpes-Maritimes, a traditional mission land for leftist and environmentalist forces, the attitude of Europe รcologie Les Verts during the municipal campaign was to systematically reject union with left-wing forces and prevent them from reaching the second round, sometimes like in Menton, with makeshift lists put together in the last hours of the campaign to capitalize on a logo.
In Nice, where the same strategy was applied to ride the wave of the European score, with 11.8% of the votes, the list led by Jean-Marc Governatori qualified for the second round. At the initiative of citizen associations, a meeting took place last Thursday between representatives of the Nice รcologique, Viva!, and Nice au Cลur lists. Once again, faced with the outstretched hand of the other two lists and the possibility of building a unified dynamic before the second round, the leaders of Nice รcologique retreated behind the vote of about a dozen militants – the same 12 who had scuttled the possibility of a grand coalition list last October – to refuse any merger or the slightest representation of the two left-wing lists within their ranks.
We regret this missed opportunity that could have engaged us in a virtuous circle after a period of divisions, and we regret even more the immature, sectarian, and humiliating attitude of the leaders of Nice รcologique behind Jean-Marc Governatori who, it must be emphasized, had an open attitude but found himself overwhelmed by the demands and petty interests of the leaders of Europe รcologie Les Verts. This episode will have serious consequences.
Despite our shared values, we believe the Nice รcologique list is not worthy of leading the 5th largest city in France, nor even representing a credible and responsible opposition to Christian Estrosi โ evidenced by its sheer neglect of a social aspect in its program! Thus, with great sadness, we will not vote for the Nice รcologique list and call on all our first-round voters and those who could not attend to cast a blank vote in the election on June 28.
