More than 200 municipal police officers gathered this afternoon at Place Massรฉna to contest the Constitutional Council’s decision to veto several articles of the Global Security law. Symbolically, officers from France’s first Municipal Police laid their handcuffs on the ground.
Among the censored articles of the Global Security law were those allowing the Nice Municipal Police to conduct an experiment to expand their power, as well as the possibility of using drones for security purposes by Municipal Police across France.
For Christian Estrosi, who visited the site in a show of solidarity and support, โthis decision by the Constitutional Council discredits the remarkable work of these municipal police officers who, like the gendarmes and municipal police, take risks and are threatened.โ
