Students of EMAP fear a future closure of the school or, at the very least, a reorganization of classes. Faced with uncertainty and lack of answers, they are circulating a petition requesting quality multidisciplinary artistic education in good conditions, along with a relocation in the neighborhood, if necessary.
Created in 1823, EMAP is an integral part of Nice’s cultural space. Artists such as Bernar Venet, Raymond Moretti, and Zia Miradolbaghi originated from there.
The school currently hosts 1,330 students: 995 adults, 42 students preparing for art school entrance exams (with a 90% success rate), and 293 extracurricular students. The involvement of the teachers and the quality of their teaching are remarkable.
In the near future, Villa Serge will no longer be available to the students. 20 courses are offered in these premises (not counting courses for preparatory students), including the ceramics course, which will be removed starting in the 2015/2016 academic year, along with its teaching position within EMAP.
The 2014/2015 academic year already saw the impossibility of using the prefabs located on Beatrix Avenue.
Since the creation of the Raoul Mille library, EMAP has indeed benefited from 2 additional rooms (formerly the Thiole library) but they are too cramped for the practice of certain disciplines.
:
โ the continuation of the ceramics courses and the accompanying teaching position,
- the maintenance of staff levels and subjects taught,
- if a relocation is necessary, that it remains in the neighborhood and allows for quality multidisciplinary artistic education in good conditions.
