Museums, cinemas, theaters, concert halls: what changes starting this Wednesday

Latest News

The shift of the curfew to 11 p.m. and the increase of the maximum capacity from 35% to 65% will allow cultural venues to accommodate more people. The Music Festival will take place on June 21, but with restrictions.

The shift of the curfew from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. starting this Wednesday is accompanied, for movie theaters, shows, and concerts, by an expansion of capacities: instead of one seat out of three, now two seats out of three can be occupied. These new rules will allow films to be released under favorable conditions.

For outdoor events, the audience can reach 5,000 people, in a seated configuration, instead of the previous 1,000, with a capacity increase to 65% of their maximum capacity. For museums, the number of square meters per visitor is halved, going from 8 mยฒ to 4 mยฒ. Wearing a mask remains mandatory.

In the current music sector (pop-rock, chanson, electro, rap…), large venues with capacities of 6,000 to 12,000 seats (like Nikaรฏa), arenas will not resume, except for exceptions, their season until September.

Regarding medium-sized venues, with capacities of about 1,000 to 4,500 seats (Opรฉra de Nice, TNN), the shift of the curfew to 11 p.m. and the increase in capacity allow some places to reopen their doors. In most cases, a health pass (complete vaccination scheme, negative test in advance, recovery certificate following Covid) will be required.

As for the Music Festival on June 21, it will be subject to strict health rules, as specified by the Ministry of Culture in a statement. Concerts in bars and restaurants will not be allowed; those that can take place in authorized venues must adhere to a seated configuration, both outdoors and indoors, and not exceed 65% capacity. The curfew cannot be exceeded.
