On the occasion of the European Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity, Friday, March 30 at 2:30 PM at the Cimiez Hospital Center – Mossa Pavilion.
Since 2002, the Communications, Culture, and Documentation Department of the Nice University Hospital and the Gerontology Center led by Professor Patrice Brocker have been meeting these European expectations by developing a high-quality intergenerational cultural policy for the residents and patients of the Cimiez Hospital.
At the hospital, concerts, shows, and intergenerational workshops regularly and sustainably recreate social bonds by bringing together different ages in meaningful actions for all.
Thus, the innovative “percussions” workshop which brings together “Cimiez Drummers,” about ten residents aged around 84 and 25 CE1 and CE2 children from Paule d’Essling School directed by Nicole Ugo, is a way to foster meetings and discoveries in the hospital context.
In 2006, Karine Lequiniou, an animator in long-term care, created this space for expression and freedom allowing the emotional and inner world of the elderly to emerge, reflecting their desire to communicate as well as have fun playing throughout the year and during shows.
This communication, based on musical exchange, was enhanced in 2010 with the participation of children aged 9 to 11 from the neighborhood school in Cimiez.
Several rehearsals at the school or hospital helped fine-tune the Brazil-Creole songs and rhythms show, designed and directed by Karine Lequiniou and presented on March 30, 2012, as the first part of the “Spring Festival”.
It will be an opportunity to thrill the audience composed of patients and residents, families, senior volunteers, hospital staff with the sound of xylophones, maracas, triangles, bells, drums, bongos… in a colorful show.
In the second part of the show offered by the VMEH association, the songs and tap dances of Jean Laety and the accordion of Jean Deray will allow sharing emotions across generations.
After these discoveries or rediscoveries, a flower distribution and a seasonal snack will take place, including a giant chocolate egg, a gourmet gift always much appreciated by all generations, traditionally offered by the young people of the Carros Municipal Training Center, their teachers, and the union of pastry chefs and chocolatiers of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Outside, in the corridor of the Mossa Pavilion, the drawings of Walter Ricardi, a former patient of the Cimiez Hospital, will be exhibited.
This “spring festival” and all the activities built in a spirit of solidarity and around humanistic values contribute to highlighting the importance of the European theme emphasized this year.
