The students of class 4°1 from Roland Garros Middle School (located on the hill of Cimiez) went to the Rectorate of Nice to understand how the National Diploma of the Brevet functions.

Since 1947, middle school students, at the end of 9th grade, are subject to the Brevet des Collèges. They will be evaluated in the Nice Academy. Over 45,000 candidates will be registered, most by the head of their school, while others will present themselves as independent candidates.

What counts in the Brevet:

The personal skills record: throughout middle school, teachers validate the student’s abilities on their digital record.

The grades from continuous assessment in 9th grade

The grades obtained in the exam and the school life grade
Moreover, options like Latin allow adding points obtained above the average to the total.

What the exams consist of:

– Mathematics: 2 hours composed of three parts: algebra, geometry, and problem-solving

– French: 3 hours composed of 2 parts: texts and questions followed by a dictation

– History: 2 hours composed of 3 parts: history and geography, civic education, and chronological landmarks

Finally, there is an art history exam; students must pass an oral exam on works studied during the year.

The honors

There are 3 honors awarded based on the grade obtained:

– Fairly good honors between 12 and 13.99

– Good honors between 14 and 15.99

– Very good honors from 16 onward
