New decisions made by the Metropolitan Council

The city advisors gathered yesterday morning to discuss several decisions concerning the Nice Cรดte d’Azur region.

On Thursday, July 29 at 9:30 a.m., the metropolitan council session began.
Led by the president of the metropolis, Christian Estrosi, the council first started with a minute of silence in honor of Pierre Laffitte, who passed away on July 7, 2021.
Son of painter Jean Laffitte, Pierre Laffite was an engineer and senator of Alpes-Maritimes from 1985 to 2008. He is the creator of Sophia Antipolis, the first technology park in France and Europe.
The president of the metropolis, Christian Estrosi, also the mayor of Nice, then addressed the inscription of the city of Nice as a UNESCO World Heritage site. He thanked the councilors of the metropolis for supporting this project and the pride of this decision.
โ€œI wanted to express my gratitude for having supported this project, this unanimous support played a big part too, you must feel great pride, and I feel it too.โ€

The first resolution of the council focused on a financial aid fund intended for the associative sector for the implementation of health pass control measures. This aid is justified by the significant cost of mandatory health safety rules to be put in place during various events. Associations often have limited means to carry out these actions while respecting health regulations. The Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis decided to set up financial aid to help associations continue organizing events while complying with these requirements imposed by the health crisis.
The envelope is โ‚ฌ100,000 for the year 2021 and will cover up to 80% of the costs incurred by the implementation of these measures.
This aid was unanimously approved by the councilors.

The second and third resolutions deal with the admission of two municipalities into the metropolis: Chรขteauneuf-Villevieille and Drap.
The ecologists chose not to vote on this resolution, while the National Rally voted in favor.
With the arrival of Drap, the Metropolis will gain territorial coherence, particularly in terms of continuity of transport networks since this municipality will host the terminus of tram line 5, and it houses the depot for metropolitan buses as well as a high school attended by students from Nice and La Trinitรฉ.
The municipality of Chรขteauneuf-Villevieille offers advantages with its historical and natural heritage. It also presents strong potential for new farmers to settle.

The metropolitan councilor then addressed an ecological theme on Earth Overshoot Day (the day when humanity has consumed the Earth’s resources for the year 2021).
The agenda included the granting of a subsidy to individual buyers of a new 100% electric vehicle residing in the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis.
It was proposed to the Metropolitan Council to approve the increase in the subsidy ceiling for the year 2021 granted to individual buyers of a new 100% electric vehicle residing in the territory of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, increasing from โ‚ฌ3,000 to โ‚ฌ5,000.
This increase in the ceiling is explained by a revaluation of the subsidy for the acquisition of electric two-wheelers for residents of the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis, increasing from โ‚ฌ200 to โ‚ฌ400.

The metropolitan council voted yes to the implementation of this subsidy.
This aid is justified in the face of global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the gradual depletion of natural resources. It aligns with Christian Estrosiโ€™s ambition to make the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis a reference in sustainable development, which involves a transition in mobility. To organize this energy conversion of transport modes, it is necessary to reinforce support for residents and to evolve the aid to encourage the acquisition of electric modes of transport.
