The demolition of the TNN began more than 3 months ago, but groups, associations, and elected officials continue to fight against the project.
It is one of the most significant and criticized projects of the Nice municipality; the destruction of the National Theatre of Nice. Although the demolition permit was signed on January 19, 2022, and the initial major maneuvers took place at the beginning of February, many are still campaigning for the project to be stopped.
A new gathering is organized this Saturday, June 25, initiated by the Association for the Defense of the Promenade des Arts. โNice au cลurโ, the group initiated by Patrick Allemand, has also responded to the call launched by the association and Martine Bayard, the daughter of the architect of the Nice theater:
โWe have received the summons; the game is not over yet! We can still turn the situation around! The green corridor can be extended without destroying a work and without destroying a functioning theater. Our action is apolitical and brings together copyright holders, elected officials, and citizens, actors of life. It defends heritage and moral rights, culture, the environment, and the human connection that the theater nurtures and gathers. We can green a city without sacrificing a work under false ecological pretenses. It is not 25 potted trees installed instead of the TNN, at a cost of several million, that will cool the city. We want another way to leave a mark: the era of destruction is no longer relevant.โ Statement by Martine Bayard
The day after his re-election as deputy of the first constituency of Nice, Eric Ciotti stated on BFMTV his desire to stop the destruction of the National Theatre of Nice. In December 2021, he had a subsidy of 10,000 euros voted for the Association for the Defense of the Promenade des Arts. He might be present at this gathering this Saturday, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm, Traverse de la Bourgada, โUnited for culture, heritage, environment, and social connectionโ (words of Patrick Allemand).
