Several candidates have already submitted their productions. “I am very sensitive to the message in short films,” says Laurent Tremeau, the festival organizer and preselector of applications. “There needs to be something that remains, something that makes you think, apart from that there are no constraints,” he adds. The themes are free, the only preselection condition being the relevance of treatment choices and the film format, 15 to 35 mm. More information is available on the association’s website.
An Ambitious Festival
Heliotrope has been around for 10 years. It also organizes writing, script, and production lessons. Despite some progress, it’s still early to find its place among the other festivals organized in Marseille or Lyon.
The association created by students continues to grow significantly. The competition is open to all European productions as long as they do not exceed 59 minutes. The number of films presented will be around 160, with an emphasis on density and quality of production.
The arrival of broadcasting sites, from which TV channel programmers increasingly pick, has affected producers. Festivals are often an opportunity to make a name for oneself. With the declared ambition to restore Nice as a cinema capital, by the two candidates, the space for new producers truly exists.
