New special fee for household waste: Éric Ciotti denounces “increased local tax burden.”

Latest News

Éric Ciotti takes a stand against a new special fee for household waste. In an open letter addressed to Christian Estrosi, he calls for the immediate suspension of this measure.

New tensions between Christian Estrosi and Éric Ciotti. The latter does not mince his words against his political rival. In a letter, he denounces the implementation of a new special fee on household waste. This would add to the already existing tax, the TEOM.

According to Ciotti, this fee represents “a considerable burden for businesses.” Furthermore, he points out that this measure could increase the effects of an already maximal tax pressure for the economic players in the region. Indeed, after a series of tax increases in recent years, Ciotti fears that this new burden may crush the most fragile businesses.

Already a Heavy Tax Burden

The assessment made by Éric Ciotti is quite harsh for Christian Estrosi. Since 2020, new taxes have sprung up and there has been a significant increase in the existing ones within the Metropolis. Among the measures criticized is the creation of a metropolitan property tax in 2020. “This accumulation of tax hikes has already placed a heavy burden, especially on the most fragile businesses,” Éric Ciotti asserts. He believes that this new fee could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

“Reduce Unnecessary Expenses”

For Éric Ciotti, the solution to this issue does not lie in increasing taxes. Rather, it lies in reducing unnecessary public spending. In his letter, he calls on Christian Estrosi to consider the impact of his political choices and to rethink the budget management of the metropolis. Specifically, he mentions the funding of the French Grand Prix deficit at Castellet, as well as the maintenance of luxurious Metropolis offices in Paris. “Instead of continuing down this path, reducing the unnecessary expenses that you engage in is imperative,” he writes firmly.

“A Threat to Merchants”

The deputy concludes his letter by warning against the potential repercussions this fee could have on the local economy. “In an already difficult economic climate, it is crucial to maintain a stable and predictable fiscal environment to encourage investment and economic growth,” he states. Ciotti believes that if this measure is not suspended, it could lead to the closure of many businesses, unable to cope with this new tax burden. “I solemnly ask you to suspend this measure in order not to penalize our merchants and our businesses,” he pleads in conclusion of his letter.
