New support and assistance program during the health crisis “Psychologists’ Words to Families”

Latest News

To address the psychological issues linked to the consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis, which may affect many individuals, the City of Nice is implementing a new online support system: “Psych Words for Families in Confinement.” The goal is to provide advice and offer solutions for better living during this period.

The health crisis is a source of stress and anxiety, frustration, or depression for many citizens and families. The long-term management of the crisis and the repeated restrictive measures have impacts on mental balance, family life, and our relationship with others, etc.

Thanks to the new system from the City of Nice, videos about fifteen minutes long will be published weekly during this re-confinement period on the City of Nice’s website, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Marie-Pierre Lazard, Municipal Councillor Associate for the Council of Family Rights and Duties, interviews Damien Scolari, a psychologist. Together, they offer analyses of the various psychological difficulties generated by successive confinements and the tensions this situation can create within families.

Targeting and identifying these difficulties is the first step in adequately addressing them.

Practical advice and solutions to implement are provided to soothe these ailments, troubles, conflicts, and to restore tranquility. By adopting a different attitude, better energy is infused within the family or couple.

The aim of this system is to reassure, provide keys to best adapt to current constraints, and also highlight some positive effects of these unprecedented situations (e.g., more time to spend with family, less time commuting, increased autonomy working from home, new distribution of household tasks, better communication…).

The first topics covered:

How to address psychological issues or illnesses derived from successive confinements that might disrupt family harmony?

How to spot inappropriate or harsh behaviors towards a partner or children, put an end to them swiftly, and prevent the escalation towards violence and trauma?

How to manage anxiety and have confidence in one’s ability to bounce back in stressful situations related to the crisis?

How to handle concerns related to new working conditions (for everyone, including employees, freelancers, students, high school students, restaurant owners…)?

What tools and attitudes should be adopted to cope with stress related to current working conditions?

Knowing how to identify the difficulties experienced by children: reassuring them, addressing them.

How to help students, particularly affected by the health crisis, and ensure their mental well-being?
