A new installation has been producing cold air since June 1, 2011, in all patient rooms of Archet 1 and 2. This equipment serves a dual purpose: generating cold and recovering heat, resulting in substantial energy savings for the CHU.
Indeed, the CHU of Nice (Construction Management) continuously strives to modernize its installations, adhering to regulatory requirements while also aiming to improve energy consumption efficiency and thermal comfort.
Naturally, the change in energy production at Archet was included in this approach starting in 2009, due to the obsolescence of the existing productions at Archet 1 and Archet 2.
The objective was to deploy a single facility capable of supplying both sites with chilled water for air conditioning, as well as heating and domestic hot water production.
The chosen solution has the additional advantage of eliminating cooling towers, which require rigorous monthly control and maintenance to prevent the risk of legionellosis.
The installation consists of three new technology refrigeration units supplemented by heat pumps. This setup allows for the cooling of all Archet premises and the heating of Archet 1.
The anticipated gains in heating production are expected to be three times greater than the existing setup.
The cost of the operation (work + equipment) is approximately 3.5 million euros. Given the expected operational gains, this investment can be recouped in ten years. Work began in October 2010.
The work will be completed in October 2011, at which point the facility will be fully operational.
