When it’s Wednesday, it’s movie day. Today, we present our selection of films for the week, to guide you in the best way possible in the dark cinema halls.
1. Borderlands โ Eli Roth
The most wacky film of this August hits the theaters. This adaptation of an eponymous video game, released in 2009, led by four badass adventurers, will not lack charisma. The story follows the character of Lilith, portrayed by none other than Cate Blanchett. More than a heroine, an outlaw with a mysterious past, Lilith reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the most powerful character in the universe, Atlas. To achieve this, Lilith allies with an unexpected team.
2. My Friend the Little Penguin โ David Schurmann
More dramatic this time, this film will particularly move you due to its incredible true story. It’s about a penguin, named Dindim, saved by a kind-hearted fisherman, Joao, played by the great Jean Reno. The beauty of nature transforms this encounter into an extraordinary friendship story.
3. Super Dad โ Rhea Lando
Another French production on the screens! This family comedy could even give some ideas to a few. For his son Gaby’s eighth birthday, Tom unintentionally gives him a book… that only contains blank pages. To make up for Gaby’s disappointment and not lose face, Tom claims it is a magic book: all you have to do is write your dreams in it for them to come true. That’s how, completely overwhelmed, Tom will go to any lengths to fulfill his son’s dreams, even the wildest ones!
4. Little Panda in Africa โ Richard Claus and Karsten Killierch
An animated film for the delight of the little ones! A young panda travels from China to Africa to save his best friend, Jielong the dragon, who has just been kidnapped. During his journey, the young Panda discovers a world completely unknown to him, the African jungle, and faces terrifying hippos, suspicious hyenas, and gorillas.
5. Tigress โ Andrei Tฤnase
The Romanian director delivers here: “A powerful parallel on liberation and the quest for self”, as highlighted by Variety magazine. Having recently lost a baby, Vera, a veterinarian, finds solace in taking care of a female tiger just arrived at her zoo. One evening, as she catches her husband in the act of adultery, Vera, furious with anger, forgets to close the cage of the beast, which escapes. The next day, the young woman and her husband lead an improbable expedition to find the animal. More than the quest for a runaway tiger, this hunt becomes, for Vera, a real introspection on her life, her marriage, and her aspirations.
