Under fire from criticism and in the spotlight since the last legislative elections, Eric Ciotti has just announced his departure from Les Républicains (LR). A change of political affiliation in favor of his party created in August, the Union of the Rights for the Republic (UDR).

Éric Ciotti, a deputy from the Alpes-Maritimes, announced that he was leaving Les Républicains (LR) and resigning from his presidency of the party, ending months of internal tensions. “My decision to leave LR will allow us to reshape a great political family in clarity and independence,” the deputy stated. He also emphasized that he no longer wishes to work with “those who are in Emmanuel Macron’s government.” This decision follows his controversial alliance with the National Rally (RN) during the legislative elections in June, which caused a shockwave within LR. Eric Ciotti then engaged in a political and legal battle to retain the presidency of Les Républicains, despite growing opposition.

Rather than continue this battle, he ultimately chose to resign, a few weeks before a scheduled hearing on October 14 that was to decide his fate. “I have won three times in court and had no concerns about the October 14 hearing,” he noted in his interview with Le Figaro. “But the hearing is no longer relevant, as I will have left the LR presidency and the LR party by then.”
He will now be able to focus on managing his new party, the Union of the Rights for the Republic (UDR), which he presents as a platform intended to unite all right-wing sensibilities, from the center-right to the far-right. However, he has so far rallied only one deputy, Christelle d’Intorni, elected from the 5th constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes.
The next battle for the former LR president is the 2025 municipal elections, where he is expected to be the main opposition force against the candidacy of Christian Estrosi.
