In his third Formula season, Théo Pourchaire arrives in Monaco as the leader of the world championship. At the start of the sprint race, the native of Grasse was starting in 8th position. This was to be expected, given the reverse grid rule for the first race of the weekend.
Thirty laps were scheduled this Saturday in the sprint race. As often happens in the Principality, everything is decided at the start. Théo Pourchaire started well, battling with Jack Doohan. Side by side until the hairpin of the grand hotel, Pourchaire had to give way to avoid a collision. In the process, it was his teammate Victor Martins who surprised the driver from the Maralpine region.
Despite two incidents that led to the intervention of the Safety Car, Théo Pourchaire was unable to overtake on the track. As a result, he finished in the same position as at the start (8th) without managing to claim the point for the fastest lap in the race. He thus scores a single point and relinquishes the championship lead to the Japanese driver Ayumu Iwasa, the winner of the day.
Tomorrow he will attempt to reclaim his position during the feature race.
The feature race starts at 9:40 AM.
