From now on, since this Monday, April 24, firefighters will operate under police protection in the Les Moulins district in response to this “identified risk of violence.” Speaking to BFM Côte d’Azur, Lieutenant-Colonel Olivier Riquier of the territorial sub-directorate of SDIS 06 specified that Niçois firefighters were increasingly falling victim to assaults in the area. “Nearly 44 assaults on 77 firefighters last year were recorded.” The lieutenant-colonel also discussed the possibility of his teams wearing bulletproof vests in the coming weeks.
Eric Ciotti, the member of parliament from the Alpes-Maritimes region, who had been calling for more significant measures than those taken by the Municipality, praised these actions to “protect those who protect us.”
