Here’s an updated status on our Maralpin athletes present today at the Olympic Games.

Latest News

Out of the total 32 athletes, only two athletes from Alpes-Maritimes were present on the different fields of the Olympic Games today: Louise Cervera and Oriane Bertone. Let’s take a look at their results.

A Promising Performance in Climbing for Oriane Bertone

Oriane Bertone confirmed her impressive pre-Olympic form. Indeed, four days before the start of the events, she clearly announced her ambition: “If I climb the way I am training right now, only great things can happen.”

Promises made, promises kept! Moreover, Oriane came in 2nd in the semi-final of the bouldering event, behind the reigning Olympic champion, Slovenian Janja Garnbret.

Originally from Nice, she successfully completed the first three boulders before encountering some difficulties on the last one (final score of 84.5 out of 100). With this good score, she takes a lead for the lead climbing event, a discipline where she has made significant progress, scheduled for Thursday morning at 10:00 AM.

Thus, the medal is within Oriane’s reach. However, caution is advised against Janja Garnbret, the only one to complete all boulders (final score of 99.6 out of 100). Additionally, Oriane’s other rivals, American Brooke Raboutoula and Japanese Ai Mori, ranked 3rd and 11th respectively. The finals are scheduled for this Saturday.

Heading for the Medal Race in Sailing for Louise Cervera

Louise Cervera, the other athlete from Alpes-Maritimes competing today, was supposed to compete in the final today. However, her race has been postponed to tomorrow at 12:13 PM, due to lack of wind at the Marina de Marseille. In the ILCA 6 category, Cervera qualified for the medal race thanks to a strong start to the competition.

Unfortunately, she has only slipped down since then. Currently eighth in the overall rankings, she can no longer aim for the podium. Despite this, she will aim to conclude her competition in the best possible way. Meanwhile, Dutch Marit Bouwmeester, with a 27-point lead, is guaranteed to win the gold.
