Tonight, the Eagles of Nice faced the Dukes of Angers. A David vs. Goliath duel that turned in favor of the Angevins in the final minutes.
Two teams in search of confidence faced off tonight. On one side, Nice has been playing matches at a frenetic pace for several weeks with mixed results. On the other side, Angers, a team favored for the title, recently fell from the Magnus League podium.
The match started well for the visitors. In the 7th minute, Jonathan Charbonneau gave the lead to the Dukes. Very disciplined, Nice allowed few opportunities for the Angevins. Despite three power plays, Frantisek Stolc’s men could not find a way past the young Elliot Leveque. He even delivered a perfect performance in the second period. Despite a few chances on both sides, there was not much to talk about.
At the Jean Bouin rink, which was almost full, the Nice supporters made their presence felt, sensing that the game could turn at any moment. And it was Hugo Proux who scored his 4th goal of the season. One of the club’s top scorers restored hope for his team in the 41st minute. This made it seem like an upset was possible. However, the Dukes’ offensive strength was yet to be fully known. Six minutes later, Tรฉo Sarlieve restored the lead for the Angevins. The visitors then extended their lead a little later thanks to Braeden Shaw (1-3).
That would be the final score. A shame for the Eagles, who perhaps deserved a bit better. Now they must focus on Amiens, a strong opponent who won’t be easy to defeat. See you this Sunday at 6 p.m.
