For the first time in its history, Nice Volley Ball played its first final in the history of the French Cup. Unfortunately, against the Tours team, which has been dominating French volleyball since the beginning of the season, the Eagles fell short.
As was the case last week during their last championship match of the season, the Azurians unfortunately couldn’t withstand Tours, the strong favorites for this historic encounter. From start to finish, the Eagles were subject to the rule of the Ligue A leader and once again failed to win a set against them.
Our valiant team from Nice would have deserved a more flattering score than 3-0. After two sets that slipped away by 4 points (21-25), the Eagles struggled to bounce back. Brimming with confidence, Tours widened the gap and claimed the final set of the match with a score of 18 to 25.
Although the defeat is painful for all the people of Nice, the NVB under Rafael Redwitz comes out stronger from this French Cup adventure. Ranked 13th in the championship, just above the relegation zone, the performances that led the NVB to the final offer hope for the next season.
Congratulations again to Nice Volley Ball for this journey. Looking forward to seeing the Eagles after the summer!
