OGC Nice defeats Toulouse at home and makes history.

HISTORICAL. On the sidelines of the 13th day of Ligue 1, the Aiglons hosted Toulouse with a victory in hand, but also a place in the history of the French championship. Here’s the full story.

The break was beneficial. Despite notable absences such as Todibo, Youssouf, and Boudaoui, the Gym remained focused on its objectives for the day. Namely, to maintain first and foremost its unbeaten streak of 15 matches, its clean sheet streak (8 matches), and perhaps even become the first team in the league not to have been behind in the score after 13 days.

A first half to forget

In just the second minute of play, Nice had a scare by conceding an opportunistic goal from Magri, though it was disallowed due to a foul on Diop in the penalty area—phew. That’s about the only noteworthy event of a first half so monotone, with zero goals and few actions in sight. But one substitute would change the course of the match…

It was Alexis Claude-Maurice, returning from injury after several weeks away. Coming on to replace Diop, who was injured in the ankle, the midfielder demonstrated remarkable technical skill. Francesco Farioli’s men altered their game plan, playing more offensively to seek a goal and perhaps provide some spectacle for the supporters who had made the journey.

A goal that feels good

It didn’t take long, as Terem Moffi (54′) delivered for his team, finishing off a beautiful ground-cross from Morgan Sanson. The Nigerian forward hadn’t scored since September 15th, when he netted twice at the Parc des Princes. Unsurprisingly, the Aiglons went defensive late in the second half to secure the victory. They are now just one point behind the Parisian leader!

See you next Saturday in Nantes (9 PM).
