Overview of the new scheme for the six priority neighborhoods in Nice

This Monday, December 18, the review of the first year of urban walks established in six priority neighborhoods of Nice was held.

In January 2023, Karim Ben Ahmed, city councilor, delegate for professional integration, and sub-delegate for the Nice West territory, housing, and urban renewal, proposed to strengthen the connections between neighborhood residents and public services. Thus, this Monday, December 18 marked the review of this year 2023 dedicated to serving the six priority neighborhoods.

These neighborhoods are Ariane, Les Moulins, Downtown, Las Palmas, Les Liserons, and Paillon Roquebilliรจre. These are neglected neighborhoods where the municipality sees a restoration of trust that was previously lacking.

The first deputy mayor of Nice, Anthony Borrรฉ, highlights the importance of taking action in these neighborhoods: “A distrust towards institutions… the duty of elected officials is to be at the heart of the problems and to try to address them.”

What are the results obtained this year?

The goal is to gather residents, associations, and landlords every two months to address everyday issues (such as heating, water failures, or cleanliness). “This opportunity to exchange with one another” is crucial for Karim Ben Ahmed to maintain constructive and positive relationships.

In 2023, 650 participants gathered in these neighborhoods of Nice. The municipality records 18 walks through the neighborhoods with over 370 problematical situations detected. Karim Ben Ahmed adds that there is a “59% resolution rate” for everyday issues. “A great advancement” that the councilor hopes to continue in 2024.
