Paris-Nice: an 83rd edition full of expectations

Latest News

Paris-Nice 2025 will take place from March 9 to 16 with eight stages, concluding in Nice as tradition dictates. Jonas Vingegaard and Joao Almeida are among the favorites for the victory. On the French side, Julian Alaphilippe, as well as the locals Lenny Martinez and Clรฉment Champoussin, are expected to be at the forefront.

The “Race to the Sun” returns from March 9 to 16 for another battle on the French roads. Eight stages are scheduled, with a final stretch on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. A total of 154 riders will compete in this 83rd edition.

Paris-Nice 2025 starts on Sunday, March 9, in Le Perray-en-Yvelines with a 156.1 km stage. Sprinters like Tim Merlier and Mads Pedersen could shine, but attackers will have their chance towards the end of the course.

Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour de France winner, is aiming for victory. He shares his team’s leadership with Matteo Jorgenson, the defending champion. โ€œI want to win as many World Tour stage races as possible, and Paris-Nice is the biggest outside the Grand Tours. I remember my first participation (in 2023). I have many memories, both good and bad. I came to win, of course, but I finished third, so I was a bit disappointed. You can’t always win, but I’m back for it with a very strong team,โ€ the Dane said.

Opposing him, Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) comes in strong. Other challengers like Mattias Skjelmose, Ben Oโ€™Connor, or Aleksandr Vlasov intend to play their cards. Guillaume Martin, a newcomer at Groupama-FDJ, hopes to make an impression.

The French not left behind in Paris-Nice

This edition will also see the return of Julian Alaphilippe on French roads, riding for Tudor Pro Cycling. The Frenchman could shine on the hilly stages. Just like Lenny Martinez who was already very prominent on the roads of the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes two weeks ago. Clรฉment Champoussin is expected to play a supporting role unless his leader falters in the early climbs…

The final stage towards Nice will once again be decisive. The riders will face two challenging stages in the hinterland of Nice, notably with a finish in Auron before disputing the final victory with a finish on the Promenade des Anglais, preceded by the climbs of the Col de la Porte and Eze. It remains to be seen who will succeed Matteo Jorgenson and write their name in the records of this first French stage race of the World Tour calendar.

The summary of each stage will be available on NicePremium.
