Review of The Weeknd event in Nice

Latest News

In concert this Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, at the Allianz Riviera, the Canadian artist put on an impressive show. The most listened-to artist on the planet, the pop superstar could count on the many fans who came in droves to see him.

Seventy thousand. That’s the number of spectators who made their way to enjoy the iconic tracks of the singer. It’s highly likely that you’ve heard the songs “Save Your Tears,” “Starboy (ft. Daft Punk),” or “Blinding Lights.” On his YouTube channel alone, The Weeknd has accumulated more than twenty billion views… Numbers that are dizzying and justify the excitement surrounding the new king of pop, a rightful successor to Michael Jackson.

The 9,000 seats at the Palais Nikaïa were not enough; something grander was needed, and the OGC Nice stadium seemed like an obvious choice. Many fans were present well before the concerts began, despite the overwhelming heat, to enjoy the best conditions possible. Among the crowd, it wasn’t uncommon to spot a few guests, such as Elton John, the living legend of British music who came to partake in the spectacle on Saturday.

A Magnificent Performance

What can be said about the feat accomplished by The Weeknd. With a marathon-like rhythm, he took no breaks, performing dozens of his tracks in front of excited fans. Everything was set for the icon to shine, and it didn’t fail: immense decor, light shows, dancers, masks, sparkling connected bracelets for spectators… Since Beyoncé and Jay-Z in 2018, Nice hadn’t witnessed a concert of this magnitude.

Without a doubt, the Gym’s grounds are attracting more and more artists. Last week, American rapper Travis Scott released a music video shot in the idyllic settings of the French Riviera, with some scenes filmed at the Allianz Riviera. On K-POP, a track that garnered millions of views in three days on platforms, he is accompanied by Bad Bunny and… The Weeknd for what already sounds like the summer hit.

After The Weeknd, it’s Mylène Farmer who’s up next this Saturday, July 29, from 8:30 PM at the Allianz Riviera!
