A 100% Azur duel could potentially take place in the round of 16 at the Saint-Malo challenger. This match was made possible thanks to Fiona Ferro’s victory in the first round against Lauren Davis.
Fiona Ferro is competing in the Open 35 de Saint-Malo this week. This follows an early exit in the qualifying rounds of the Masters 1000 in Madrid against Maria Timofeeva. Thus, the Valbonne native continues her clay court season in Brittany.
In this first round, she faced the American Lauren Davis (30 years old, world No. 166). Davis is a player who has been struggling in recent years and, like Fiona Ferro, is trying to regain her best ranking.
Clearly lacking rhythm, the American didn’t last long against the Azur native. With only one service game won (with difficulty), it was hard for her to make an impact in the match. There are therefore few lessons to be drawn for the French player, who easily won (6-1 / 6-2) in just over an hour.
She could now encounter the soon-to-be-retired Alizรฉ Cornet. A duel that promises to be more challenging! But before that, the Nice native will face a young compatriot, Astrid Lew Yan Foon.
