This Friday, January 19, the seniors of the Nice-west departmental center had the pleasure of welcoming Charles Ange Ginésy to jointly inaugurate a brand new activity space.
The establishment is getting a makeover! Located near the Magnan neighborhood, the MDS has been renovated and expanded after several months of work. It now boasts a new 100 m² space, allowing for the organization of numerous activities of all kinds, such as digital workshops, cultural and leisure activities, as well as temporary exhibitions.
Thanks to this renovation, the Nice-west Departmental House for Seniors can continue to fulfill its missions: providing a quick response to seniors, their families, and caregivers on everyday life issues, preventing isolation, developing social and local connections, and offering a diverse range of leisure activities, all in a welcoming and friendly space.
A Multiple Support
This is the fourth structure after Nice-north, Nice-center, and Nice-east. It operates 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., with drop-in services for seniors. In 2023, 35,000 procedures in total were completed, with 29,000 related to Seniors in Action. Today, 2 new multifunctional spaces are offered, each equipped with a large screen, one of which includes a video conferencing system. There is also a reception desk and a waiting area.
“The Département of Alpes-Maritimes tirelessly strives to promote aging well in the Alpes-Maritimes, aimed both at those losing autonomy and the most active seniors. While the premises previously only represented 34 m² on the ground floor, it was desirable to improve the functionality and comfort of this location. This more spacious structure continues to strengthen the territorial network in the Nice agglomeration.
Our MDS assume a role of proximity on behalf of our elders, their families, and caregivers, to inform, guide, and support them towards various daily aids and services. But also to offer them a diverse range of leisure, cultural, and relaxation activities, especially through registrations in the “Seniors in Action” program and its ever-richer activity panel,” commented Charles Ange Ginésy on this occasion.
The Commitment Continues
Improving the quality of life for seniors is a priority for the Département of Alpes-Maritimes, which deploys numerous actions to ensure their well-being and facilitate their autonomy. Pursuing its “aging well” policy and prevention aimed at seniors, the departmental council has established, since 2012, the “Seniors in Action!” program, aimed at residents of the Alpes-Maritimes aged over 55.
Throughout the year, cultural and leisure activities, workshops, competitions, events, and shows are offered to them for free or at preferential rates to ensure access to the greatest number, to develop social and intergenerational connections, and to combat isolation.
