First match, first success for the Nice Eagles in the 2024-2025 Ligue Magnus season, with a victory clinched in the final minutes against the Chamonix Pioneers (3-2).
In front of more than 1,000 spectators, Nice perfectly kicked off their season, a performance all the more notable due to the significant team overhaul. The match began well with Filip Dvorak opening the score in the 4th minute. The Czech forward, freshly arrived from Marseille, scored the first goal of this new Ligue Magnus season. However, Chamonix responded quickly, equalizing two minutes later thanks to Matt Tugnutt.
The two teams remained level until the end of the first period. It took until the 27th minute for another new recruit to give the Eagles the lead again. Following a play initiated by captain Marc-André Lévesque and young Joseph Broutin, Julien Msumbu scored his first goal in his new colors, allowing Nice to lead at the break.
The Eagles Don’t Give Up
In a strong position, the people of Nice envisioned their first victory of the season. But that was without counting on the composure of Finnish player Saku Kivinen, who brought his team back to a tie. Everything remained to be done on both sides. Finally, it was a veteran from last season who unlocked the situation for the Eagles. Well served by Marek Sloboda (who made two assists), Luka Kalan outsmarted the Pioneers’ goalkeeper in the 54th minute. The score didn’t change further, and Nice won the match (3-2). It’s also worth highlighting the fine performance of Conrad Molder, who made 36 saves.
In the standings, the Eagles temporarily hold the third place. Next week, Nice will face a very different caliber opponent. The Eagles will travel to Grenoble, a serious contender in the title race.
