Wednesday means cinema. Today, we present our selection of films for the week, to best guide you through the dark movie theaters.

1. Fast and Furious X by Louis Leterrier

The saga returns for a tenth installment, the most expensive of the franchise. Dom Toretto and his family are now facing their most terrifying and personal enemy: emerging from the mists of the past, this revenant thirsting for vengeance is determined to decimate the family by destroying everything and everyone Dom ever cared about.

2. Umami by Slony Sow

Gabriel Carvin is a starred chef played by Gรฉrard Depardieu. Burdened by health and family issues, he searches for meaning. He then drops everything and flies to Japan, in search of a Japanese chef who defeated him in a cooking competition 40 years ago. Complaining about not having heirs, he will find more than just a family in the Land of the Rising Sun: the taste for life.

3. Jeanne du Barry by Maรฏwenn

Presented at the opening of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, this film retraces the true story that linked the fate of Jeanne Vauvernier, a commoner girl, to that of King Louis XV. Dreaming of class elevation, she uses her charms to get what she wants. Her lover, the Count Du Barry, decides to introduce her to the King via the influential Duke of Richelieu. Their eyes meet, and it’s mutual love at first sight. The king is smitten with her, making her his official favorite, despite the Court’s disapproval. Between passion, disillusionment, and scandal, the courtesan’s life takes a dramatic turn.

4. Sublime by Mariano Biasin

The Argentine director Mariano Biasin dives the audience into the seemingly ordinary life of Manuel, 16 years old. He leads an adolescent life like any other, in a coastal town in Argentina: a group of friends, a girlfriend, beach outings, a rock band. His routine gradually changes as he realizes that he has romantic feelings for his best friend Felipe.

5. The Standing Man by Florence Vignon

Clรฉmence Alpharo, played by Zita Hanro, has just been hired at a company that sells wallpaper. To secure a permanent contract, her boss gives her a mission: convince Henri Giffard, a sales representative nearing retirement, to take early retirement. The mission quickly proves to be very challenging. The sixty-year-old seems to only have eyes for his work. As her superior continues to put pressure on her and Henri Giffard holds on, the young employee will have to make a choice. Her professional future or the unexpected affection she feels for the salesman? This dramatic comedy is an adaptation of the novel Ils dรฉsertent by Thierry Beinstingel.
