Tony Estanguet unveiled the route that the Olympic flame will take before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics. It will stop in Nice on June 18.
It took more than a year and a half to establish its path across France. The official departure of the Olympic flame will be on April 27, 2024, from the famous city of Olympia. This is the birthplace of the first Olympic Games in history where it rests. It will pass through nearly 400 towns until July 26, the opening date of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
It is expected to arrive on the Côte d’Azur by sea. Returning from a trip to the overseas departments, it will stop in Nice on June 18.
The flame will pass through seven towns in the Alpes-Maritimes
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the flame will also pass through six other cities in the department. From Villefranche-Sur-Mer to Valberg Breuil and its famous Launes ski jump, passing through La Colmiane Valdeblore, Grasse, Antibes, and Cannes, the relay will extensively tour the Alpes-Maritimes. “What made the difference is the history, the attachment, and the willingness of those who supported the application to be selected… We could not not be present at this Olympiad,” emphasized Charles-Anges Ginésy. The department president was also in Valberg to celebrate this announcement of the flame’s passage in conjunction with the launch of the 4th edition of the Olympic Day for the schools of Alpes d’Azur. An event that brought together about 600 children from the department, with the aim of transmitting the values of Olympism through sports practice.
The day was overseen by the CDOS06 and its president Philippe Manassero, who stated the desire to allow “all the children from the middle and upper region to experience different sports that are often practiced in cities,” with the hope that they may one day “take up a membership.”
